Waste O’ Points

21 Feb

blog_022113When you’re on a diet – whether tracking calories or points – I find nothing is more frustrating than eating something that isn’t worth the points.  Case in point – I picked up a ready made salad.  I was certain it would be yummy, as I’ve loved everything else from their deli.  But this was just awful.  6 points of awfulness!

The lettuce was dry, the tomatoes were gross and I had to struggle to get through it.  How would I calculate points on something I didn’t finish?

If anything, it was a reminder to make things at home.  I love making salads – but I find a definite convenience factor in having the nutritional info for the entire meal (dressing, etc.) provided.  With a home made salad, it takes a bit more time.

But now I know – make the effort.  Take the extra time to make something I know I’ll love and skip buying pre-made things whenever possible.  It’ll make the points used much more worth it!

At least you learned this lesson over a salad. I (re)learned this lesson over a fast food burger and tater tots – wasting 75% of my daily points on something that tasted horrible. On another note, you could make homemade salads a little more convenient by preparing multiple salads at the same time (minus the dressing) and storing them in air tight containers. If you make them all the same, you only have to calculate the points once – and the other will be ready for grab and go lunches.

Great idea Kate! I think Sunday is going to become my prep day – where I plan lunches for the week. Making several salads in advance is definitely the way to go. Thank you for the idea!

Been there so many times! Specially when you think it’s something totally good for you and then you find out it wasn’t. Like Kate said, at least it was a salad! count your blessings..if not the points!…hehe 😉
